GPU強化、A5XとA6Xの違い

AnandtechにA6Xを搭載する iPad 4 のレビューが掲載されています。

Apple A5Xでは PowerVR SGX 543MP4 を搭載していましたが、
Apple A6Xでは PowerVR SGX 554MP4 を搭載している模様。

543と554の主な違いは内蔵する演算ユニット数で、倍になっています。

the main difference between it and the 543 is a doubling of the ALU count per core (8 Vec4 ALUs per core vs. 4 Vec4).
554と543との主な違いは演算ユニット数が2倍になったこと（8基 Vec4 ALUに対し、4基のVec4）

ダイサイズは123mm²。スマホとしては大きめですが、タブレットとしては許容範囲でしょうか。1つのGPUに8基（＋1）のコアを内蔵しているので、×4GPUで計32基となります。



ダイサイズはちょうどA5プロセッサーと同程度。

ベンチマークも載ってますが、SnapdragonやOMAPと較べると同じファブレスなのになぜ？と思うほどに明快な差がついています。これが P.A. Semi 買収効果なのか。
